kernel update question

I am looking into why my server load has been high lately. I am looking at the IOTop application http://guichaz.free.fr/iotop/. It is requiring a newer kernel than I have installed. I have just been getting it via yum updates. How would I go about getting a kernel newer than 2.6.20 onto my CentOS 4 box?

I don’t think that’s easily possible johan. You could build your own kernel and try to get it to work, but that tends to be a pretty involved process. You could also look for newer kernel RPMs that have the “.el4” in the name, those a generally compatible with CentOS 4 / RHE 4.
