Don't know how to use this......

I’ve been trying to get this site up but I can’t. It looks like all I should do is go into Siteworx and download the phpBB because all I really want are forums. And I’ve downloaded it i don’t know if I’m supposed to publish my website to make it avilable or what but it doesn’t seem like anything I do is working at all. I’ve read over these forums, the trobleshooting guild and FaQ and opened a ticket I’m getting very upset with this because I just can’t get it to work. I’ve been trying for hours with 2 other ppl and nether of them can do anything and they’ve both made website before. Please help

Hi e-jipt,

Do you own an InterWorx license and your own NodeWorx login? Or are you a client of a hosting company that uses InterWorx, and all you have is a SiteWorx login? If all you have is a SiteWorx login, you’ll need to contact your hosting company for support.

I guess i’d be option number 2. I’m the client of a hosting company that uses interworx. I’m trying to get help from darkstar as well but I’m looking here to because it’s written with InterWorx and I don’t know how to use it. I can’t figure out how to use it, it seems like the phpBB is in the right place but I just can’t access it online. Thnx

Is your DNS configured properly? When you ping your domain name, do you get the IP of the server your account is on?

I kind of know what that means. but not really. when I put in the site address it just gives me
“The page cannot be displayed”

Go to this site:
http://dns-tools.domaintools.com/

In the text box underneath “Tools”, type in your domain name. Make sure the “Ping” option is selected, and click “Go”. Do you get any results or do you get “Timed Out”?

yea all t/o

You may also want to signup for the InterWorx-CP Forums to interact with other SiteWorx users.

Probably you have to avoid the above from the default page of siteworx account. Or, at least should remove the link to the ‘interworx forums’. It seems that people come here for help due to this.

what are you talking about tiger you made no sense to me??

e-jipt,

Tiger was making a suggestion to us, the InterWorx team, since the default page (before site content is added) shown on a SiteWorx account suggests that user’s come ask questions on the InterWorx forums.

Since you aren’t even able to pull up your site, I doubt that’s how you found us. Anyway, if your site isn’t even pinging, I suspect that the DNS for your domain isn’t properly configured. This is something your hosting provider can help you with.

thnx so much IWorx-socheat for your help. I’ve had a friend help me, he said the domain is messed up too. So what this mean is the domain is screwed and the company needs to repair it right? I have a ticket open with them and am awaiting response. Thans again for all your help I’ll post back to let you know what happens.

Yes, it was for the iworx guys, probably I should have addressed the message to them.

Recently, one user (tonyk) had a thread here ( http://interworx.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1810 ) asking for help on hosting related issue. You can see (now) that the user’s default page ( http://aflfocus.com/ ) is having link to the interworx forums.

I have also seen some others in the past making such requests here in the forums.

PS: If you directly registered the domain with a domain registrar, usually you have to set the name servers of your domain (given to you by the hosting company). If domain reg is handled by your host, probably they will set that for you. Type this at the WinXP command prompt, and you should get your host’s name servers.

 C:\Documents and Settings\XXX>nslookup -type=ns your_domain_here.com

The new account default page was written several years ago when there were very few people around who knew a lot about InterWorx so it was apparently deemed best to have users post InterWorx questions to our forums. This has the side effect of people asking other hosting related questions as well.

That being said, the other day I finished a tutorial on how to customize the skel system (the default configuration of new SiteWorx accounts) so hopefully hosting companies will begin to replace/edit this file with their own information.

This document will go live with the next website update.

hopefully some/most may not edit …

PS one more user (frankstr) just registered today

I’m not sure what you are getting at. The infor is availabel now on the form of a couple FAQ’s (basically edit the files in /chroot/home/interworx/etc/skel ) but I realize it’s not the most accessable or suer friendly, so I wrote a more in depth and prominent How To in the Developer Guide on the documentation page.

In time, hopefully more people will take advantage of the information and make their own default index files pointing to their own support options. In the meantime we will continue to field questions here on the forums and answer questions or point people in the right direction.

I don’t expect that we are going to change the default index file because reguardless of everything else out there we are still the best source of InterWorx information on the Internet.

Sorry. I initially thought you were overlooking the forum link, but now I see that it is left intentionally.

Shortly after replying to your post I was poking around the default index and saw that it still points to interworx.INFO. This will be fixed in 3.0, but since we don’t overwrite the skel directory the change will only effect new installs.
