I have added a new port to the firewall but could not see an option to add a description to service, which file do i edit to give the service a description instead of N/A.
also is port 22 used by anything else except ssh, can i close it totally.

For CentOS 4.x I edited the following file:
/etc/services
Just added your entry to the end of the file following the same format as the other entries there. The service name can not include a SPACE.
To my knowledge only ssh is initially setup to use port 22. You should not have a problem closing port 22 if you are not going to be using ssh on port 22.
