Why do I have 31 e-mails sitting in my queue? It’s not like my server is doing anything else… I have one low traffic domain in InterWorx (and some more that don’t point to that box yet) and a low traffic VoIP server. IIRC, load averages are less than .25, if they even go above .05.
Sometimes messages can’t be delivered immediately (e.g., problems with the receiving mail server) so the delivering server will queue the message and retry later. Once the max amount of tries is hit (default is a week), the email will be removed from the queue (i.e., the server will stop trying to deliver it). You can adjust the queue lifetime using this howto:

I think I figured it out… my provider didn’t have reverse DNS setup so certain providers (AOL and maybe others) were blocking because of this.
