Increase VM disk space allocated

Sure, thank you.

Here is what I am trying to post:

A note before I start, I am very inexperienced with Linux / CentOS.

I currently have a production server that needs more disk space. I have allocated an additional 100GB of space in VMWare to this particular VM. I rebooted the box and I see that CentOS recognized the additional space.

From here, I am a bit lost. I would like to safely expand my “/dev/mapper/vg_webserver001-lv_home” partition (mount point /home) from it’s current size of 49 GB to 149GB. I read in another thread that I may be able to use LVM to accomplish this but I have no idea what steps I should be taking and what the commands are.

Again, this is a production server that is currently hosting around 150 live websites so I am afraid to break anything. I have made a snapshot / backup of the server instance in VMWare in case anything goes wrong so I can restore.

Any suggestions of how to proceed?

Firstly, apologies for mistyping your name, predictive typing on mobile.

Please see this link for centos disk allocations, which should be easy enough to do, but I would advise you create 1 more backup of vm to be sure.

Thanks again John. The machine I am referencing is currently running version 6.5.

Many thanks, the instructions are for centos 6, as I thought you most likely would be using 6.
