Given the range of MySQL server versions we have to support, we have no immediate plans to upgrade. If you really want to use the newer version that isn’t encapsulated inside of InterWorx, you can use simplescripts to install it to a siteworx account’s html directory. Keep in mind that installations of phpMyAdmin outside of InterWorx need to be regularly updated and secured with proper permissions and ownership as phpMyAdmin is a common point of entry for attackers.
