root ssh pwd change

hi,

Is there a way to change ssh root pwd through interworx not knowing old pwd?

No, but you could reset the password to NodeWorx if you had root.

If you lose your root password you’ll need to boot your server in single user mode at the terminal to reset it.

How do i that remotely?

You don’t. If this is a dedicated server or colo you’ll need to send remote hands to do this for you. You may want to have them schedule it off of peak hours for this server since it will mean a few moments of downtime. It’s a pretty simple / frequent thing though, your provider should know exactly what you’re talking about.

its a vps server + it’s not managed solution they want to charge me for it.:frowning:

If it’s Virtuozzo, you just need to reset your Power Panel password.

If it’s Xen, I’m not 100% how that works. Giving you the bare fundamentals to access your system remotely hardly seems like a managed service, though if there’s no easy web interface for it, you’re pretty much bound by whatever they say their policies are.
