Hi, I imported a cPanel account and had to generate a new SPF record, but it is missing the IP, how comes?
New record is this: v=spf1 a mx ~all

Hi nico
Welcome to IW forums
Good question with a simple answer
The A (a) covers the IP address
You can add other records to spf if the record does not fully cover your requirements but initially IW-CP would not know these
Many thanks
John
Hi John,
Many thanks for explaining, never knew A was enough as in cPanel it has always the IP included.

Hi nico
Many thanks. Glad you got it but for a fuller breakdown of spf record
spfv1 is version 1 - there is version 3 if you want to use that but not many systems understand version 3 yet and do not set both v1 and v3 records. Use only 1
a covers the A record from dns - so this covers the website and www is usually a Cname of domain
mx covers email server
~all is soft fail - so even if records do match, mail servers should allow but mark higher for possible spam.
If you want hard fail, use -all and this tells the mail servers to reject or drop email if not sent from authorised sending servers as shown in spf record
Hope that helps a little
Many thanks
John
Hi John, again, great explanation, thank you.
